Broom Handle Mauser can anyone give me info on this This gun was my uncles( he has had it for over 40 years). He gave it to my father years ago. My father is interested in selling it but has no idea if it is even legal to sell. Can anyone give me any info on this gun and its rarity. It is a fully auto (has a selector switch) The gun is in firing condition and all serial numbers match. Its is numbers 23327, so I assume it is fairly early production(although I might be wrong). Please any info would be greatly appriciated. Also if anyone knows what has to be done to sell this gun( I know the buyer needs a class 3 license) but unsure about the rest. Thanks
Chad

Chad, you'll have to reload your pics, and MTC will be along to help you out on the process and laws.

I cannot see the photos but since the thread is now here I have to figure that the pistol is registered. These pistols ran in their own separate serial number series totally independent from the other Broom Handles and going up to #100,000. Your pistol is in the earlier part of the range but nor so early that it will make much differnce. You can do a few different things with it. The first and by far the easiest is to simply sell it to what is commonly called a Class 3 firearms dealer. He can walk you through the transfer and since he is a dealer the process is much shorter. The only downside is that he will be looking to buy the pistol for resale so you won't get quite a much money from him. These pistols are Curio and Relics so they can also be sold directly to a buyer who holds a C&R FFL and lives in a state where machine guns are legal. He will have to wade through a pile of paperwork with the BATFE and it might take four or five months for it to be approved. You don't ahve to do anything except wait for the BATFE to notify you that the transfer has been approved, get a copy of the buyers C&R FFL and then ship it to him. You will very likely get more money with the collector sale than the dealer but you'll have to wait much longer for the transfer to be approved. In either case you don't have to do a thing except wait for teh BATFE to notify you that the new buyer has been approved. For you it is easy. In nice shape $6000 to $7000 would be a reasonable estimate of value and if you have the original shoulder stock that adds another thousand easily. If it is extremely nice then the sky is the limit to value.
I am not an expert in Model 712 pistols, they are a very specialized area and I urge you to seek out an appraisal from someone who understands all of the details of these pistols.

It depends This may be a bit more complicated because a full auto firearm can only be sold and transferred if it has been previously registered with the BATFE. Since 1986, no new full auto firearms have been added to the registry for sale to civilians. If this is a GI bring back piece that was never registered, it cannot be registered now. You may have a few bad choices; turn in the firearm to the BATFE, destroy it or bury it. I just went down this road with a friend who was given a live Sten gun that had never been registered. I would suggest looking at the BATFE website for clarity on this issue and some additional information. All the best...

It was registered with the BATFE, his pistol is legal.

TRAP55 Thank you for the clarity. The original post did not indicate that the firearm had ever been registered. All the best...
