Mauser Reciever Ring Crests....All Mauser Owners Please Read Mauser owners help me out here! We have been compiling identification and and "how to's" in the Tech Talk Forum Archives. Unless someone has a link to something simular, I'd like to start a Crest Identification Photo Archive.
You can submit your Crest photos here or email them to me......even if you don't know the country of origin. That's the purpose, to have a comprehensive catalog of all the Crests. Then I'll create an Archive with all the pics and info for each Crest.
I'll make this a Sticky, and when we have enough to get started with, I'll move it to the Tech forum.

I have been trying most of the morning. I can't get my camera to focus on the rounds receiver ring.......
Normally it takes great close ups. This thing has so many settings........

1919 date Carl Gustaf M96
1903 Turk reworked in 1934, note the large fancy crest as compared to the 1938 rework. The closer to the war they got, the sloppier they became.
1903 turk, reworked in 1938. I put the some extra holes in it.
The 1903's seem to be a good quality action, but have some serious issues to overcome to be used as a sporter. They are an intermediate large ring action, with a full length magazine box, so you can use a standard long stock. The barrel threads are standard small ring, but have a .700" long shank rather that the .625" standard. The stripper clip hump is huge and must be ground for scope bases. The bolt stop/ ejector box must also be modified.

I really have to ask: what camera or camera set-up is used to get those terrific close-up shots. Is it a macro set-up? I've been struggling to get these photos of this 1917 and my digital camera won't do that.....please let me know..thanks james

If you are asking me, it is a SONY Mavica MVC CD-250. The even cooler thing about this one is it burns the photos onto CD's instead of using memory cards. I just kept pushing buttons till it took a picture that looked like what I wanted. The book for this thing it about 700 pages, it is my wifes. I think the button I pushed had a picture of a Flower on it.

Mine was taken with an Olympus Camedia C-4000 at the maximum zoom. It was taken outdoors (to avoid having to use the flash) on a cloudy day (to even out the coloring).

I used a Sony Cyber-shot 4.1 mp.
Mine was taken with flash indoors. Should have done what SM did

SM: well, so happens I have a camera like yours, I agree with the no flash, but lets see, the zoom was set all the way out, how far was the lens from the crest when you pushed the button?...
